In addition to the correspondence and on-line training courses, LEEA offers both INTENSIVE PRACTICAL courses and SPECIALIST MODULES which are held at the Training Centre in Huntingdon. Certain intensive and specialist courses are offered at the client’s premises provided that essential resources can be made readily available for training purposes.

(IPF)      Lifting Equipment Familiarisation Seminar (1 day)

The IPF Lifting Equipment Familiarization seminar is designed to provide underpinning information for people new to the industry or others that may be wish to develop their understanding of the equipment and terminology in order to supplement their current understanding whilst working in non-engineering type roles in the industry. The seminar does not include any inspection criteria, requirements of relevant standards or engineering procedures involved with lifting equipment.

The seminar is structured to take place over 1 day and a certificate of attendance will be issued to all delegates on completion.


(IP1)      Part 1 Entry Certificate (2 days)

The course is a 2-day course, structured to take place over 3 days in order to allow for delegate travelling time on the morning of day 1 and the afternoon of day 3 (with a final examination for the Certificate on day 3).

This course deals with the basic knowledge required for the Part 1 Entry Certificate. At the end of the course, delegates will sit the Part 1 Entry Certificate and successful delegates will receive a LEEA Part 1 Certificate. This course does not include practical workshop sessions, although a variety of equipment will be demonstrated for familiarisation purposes.

This foundation course does not offer a LEEA qualification for inspection or examination of lifting equipment but must be completed before a delegate can undertake the Diploma or Specialist Module courses.


Intensive (Practical) Diploma

(IP2)      Lifting Equipment General Diploma (5 days) (TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma. Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.


(IP3)      Lifting Machines Manual Diploma (5 days) (TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma. Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.


(IP4)      Lifting Machines Power Diploma (5 days) (TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma. Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

A high degree of emphasis will be focused on the safety related issues when working with this equipment.


(IP5)      Runways & Crane Structures Diploma (5 days)(TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma. Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

A high degree of emphasis will be focused on the safety related issues when working with this equipment.


(IP6)      Overhead Travelling Crane Diploma (5 days) (TEAM Card qualifier)

An intensive course directly aligned to the correspondence Diploma. Delegates will benefit from hands-on practical training to compliment the essential theory sessions.

A high degree of emphasis will be focused on the safety related issues when working with this equipment.


(IP7)      Offshore Containers Diploma Diploma (5 days)

This 5 day, comprehensive Diploma course is available to delegates that already possess the LEEA Lifting Equipment General Diploma. The course will provide theoretical training in relation to the current regulations, standards and the requirements of persons carrying out testing, examination and marking of offshore containers with an overview of design and construction requirements.


Delegates that successfully complete IP courses 2-7 and pass the final examination will be awarded the LEEA Diploma for the specialist subject.

Practical Certificate Courses

(SM4)    Hand Chain Blocks & Lever Hoists (2 days)

This 2 day course will include both theory and practical elements covering both hoist types. Delegates will participate in the strip-down, identification/inspection of components and rebuild of both types of hoist. Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.


(SM5)    Chain, Wire Rope & Textile Slings (1 day)

This 1 day course will cover all elements of examining different types of common slings and will include shackles and eyebolts. Successful delegates will receive a LEEA Certificate.


(SM6)    MEWPS Examinations

This 3-day course is intended for candidates that already possess the LEEA Lifting Equipment General and Lifting Machines Power Diplomas. The course will provide theoretical and practical training in relation to the current regulations and the requirements of persons carrying out thorough examinations of powered access equipment.

Successful assessment provides suitable candidates with the valuable documentary evidence that they are certified as competent persons to plan, manage or carry out thorough examinations of platforms in the context of current legislation including the Work at Height Regulations, LOLER and PUWER 98.
